Ryan completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry (2003) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while performing research under the guidance of Prof. Royce Murray. Ryan’s doctoral work was done at the University of Utah with the mentorship of Prof. Henry White with studies focused on the development and use of nanoscale electrodes and nanopores for various analytical purposes. His thesis was entitled ” Stochastic Analyses at Nanometer-Scaled Geometries using Electrochemical Methods.” Ryan continued his studies as a NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara with Prof. Kevin Plaxco working on electrochemical aptamer-based sensors.
